As part of our introduction series, these first few posts will be short as we want to detail our mission quickly. The "Golden Four" are the most critical aspects of becoming a prepper: plan, prepare, practice, and execute. These four rules are the guidelines and basis of our blog and help our community become better prepared for whatever happens.
Planning: This rule will dictate how your prep journey will begin. You must account for all environmental and socioeconomic factors that may threaten you and your unique situation. This step is where you will understand why you are prepping and how to become better prepared. You will want to understand the roads/routes around you, population density, and seasons to adequately and carefully assemble your Prep plan and equipment list. This rule may include preparing yourself with enough food, clothing, and fuel to last a winter or figuring out the most effective routes to leave town in the event of a significant storm. Finally, implement a contingency plan if your original plan doesn't work out as intended.
Preparing: After carefully assembling your prep plan, you can obtain all the necessary items to carry it out. This step includes securing food, resources, equipment, and mapping suitable escape routes. It's important not to forget storage and hauling your items, and contingency plans in the event fuel and other natural resources are limited.
Practicing: This step is the most overlooked. Knowing and understanding your gear and planning to carry it out effectively is essential. Drive your escape routes during rush hour to understand traffic patterns, practice packing your sack and putting up your tent if your plan calls for this, and review your plan with anyone included so they can handle it when it comes time to execute. There is a huge difference between having gear and knowing how to use it effectively. Learn and practice!
Execute: You must understand the right time to carry out your plan. Keep up on current events and weather patterns, and always be ready to mobilize at any moment.
Keep an eye out for more posts on the "Golden Four" series. We will expand on each point individually in much greater detail.
